It never ceases to amaze me; the ‘reach’ of people with drive and enthusiasm so potent it is infectious, who believe in their message so strongly that they simply won’t settle until they have told EVERYONE, and those it touches, are compelled to get involved and make a difference.

I had the pleasure this week of being the benefactor of virally infectious enthusiasm from two extraordinary ladies; Shonette Bason and Shonette’s Mum, Patricia. Their enthusiasm was released upon me, both toward my own quest, and spontaneously toward their quest; to set a new Guinness World Record in the world-wide phenomenon of Dough Disco. I have to say it was overwhelming, in a wonderful way. Introduced through my good friend Mad Northern Andy (aka Andy Whittaker of the Art Of Brilliance), there is a common interest we each share; helping children learn.

Shonette is an international speaker, educational consultant, author and was a Primary school teacher. Her website shonettebasonwood.com gives more insight into her work outside of education. It is Shonette’s passion for primary education that drives her work ethic; enthusiasm and dedication to continually innovate new ways to educate children. ‘Dough Disco’ is one such innovation; the purpose is to improve children’s motor skills in their fingers and prepare their hands for writing. The easiest way to see what’s involved is to join the other 44,000+ people who have already watched the video of Shonette ‘Dough Disco-ing’, at the bottom of this post.

Help Shonette Set A ‘Dough Disco’ Guinness World Record

Shonette has already received confirmation that over 150 schools will be participating to set a New Guinness World Record on the 3rd of March 2014. The plan is for each school to join a live video link (at 10:30am), where Shonette will lead a live Dough Disco, and the children in each school will join in.

Shonette and Patricia, in addition to their very generous donations to help my quest of building a new school with Room to Read, also want to help raise awareness of my journey. I’m working with Shonette on ways we can teach school children about the world through the pictures and stories I discover along the way.

Shonette is also taking the opportunity to encourage each school who participates in the world record attempt to raise £50 toward my Room to Read fund. To make it clear though, there is no obligation for the school to raise money, they can take part without donating.

What You Can Do To Help

I know my friends and family are currently reproducing at a rate I’m struggling to keep up with, and hope they will want their own children to be Guinness World Record holders before they leave primary school. But, truthfully, I think we all know someone with young children that would be delighted to give this a go. If you want to learn more about how you can get involved, please contact Patricia by phone or email through shonette’s website; shonettebason.com

Alternatively, if you know someone else who might be interested, send them a link to this page, or directly to Shonette’s website. And, of course, share this page through your social media platform of choice with the buttons below.
