Going all-in is about being fully committed to a course of action, a decision, or an outcome. Going all-in is about excluding all other options. It’s about putting a stake in the ground and saying ‘this is it, no turning back’. It’s about accepting that by going all-in, you are putting everything on the line, and in doing so, you have to make it work.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was intending to write a book, and have been conscious that it probably looks somewhat premature, given that I’ve only travelled the first (and arguably the easiest) 4000 miles of a 40,000 mile world tour. I’ve also been getting asked what the book will be about which, up until now, I haven’t been able to answer very succinctly.

Here goes in reverse order….

What is The Book About?

The book will be about, in a word, Cyclehacking.

I believe we are all here for a reason, to fulfil a particular purpose, if you like, and we have arrived equipped with a unique set of skills, talents and abilities to help us do so. The problem is we’re perhaps not using them at present to fulfil our purpose, we might not even know what our purpose is, and even if we did, there are probably a myriad of reasons why we can’t. Cyclehacking is the process of doing, learning and evolving, with the intention of becoming aligned to your purpose, and doing what you were put on this earth to do.

Doing – Is about the struggle we all face every day as we go about our business. It’s about the struggle we have within ourselves to find meaning in our lives from what it is we spend our time doing. It’s about the many ways we could be sabotaging ourselves, to justify why we can’t do what we’re here to do.

Learning – Is about looking at what you’re doing and asking, ‘Am I living on purpose? Is what I’m doing making use of my unique skills and abilities?’ It’s about identifying with the part of you that knows what you are here to do, and getting out of your way to do it.

Evolving – Is about applying the learning to what you’re doing, and going all-in. It’s about making a commitment to live the life you were born to live, and finding a way to live it.

Why Am I Writing A Book?

Frankly, I’ve learnt more about myself in the last two years than in the previous thirty-three and a half, and I want to capture and share that learning while it’s fresh in my mind.  I’ve spent fifteen years learning about the mind and how to use it effectively, only to find myself repeatedly derailed by an elaborate ploy of self-sabotage.  Over the last four months, through the act of finding and following my purpose, the years of theoretical learning have finally become practical, usable truths.  The fact is we all struggle with our inner demons, but by sharing what we have learnt, others can benefit too.

Self-sabotage takes many forms and has never been far from my door, but the best way I’ve found to avoid it is to focus on what I’m here to do. So, in a roundabout way, I’m writing a book because I’m terrified that if I don’t, I’ll derail myself again. I’m terrified that if I don’t follow through this time, I will let down the people I love most; the people I’ve abandoned to pursue my dream.

I’ve committed to raising £26,000 to build a school; writing a book will help to raise money towards this total.  Half of the proceeds from the book sales will go to Room to Read, the other half will go toward keeping Shurly Anne on the road, and me fed and watered.

Going All In

This ebook really wouldn’t be worth the paper it’s written on if I didn’t practice what I preach!  There will be a section on goals, and more importantly the systems within which to achieve them.

The book will be published and available electronically on the 16th of February 2014.

That gives me just 11 weeks to do something I’ve never done before. I can only pray that Parkinson’s Law, focus, self-discipline, the support of others and the fear of public humiliation, will conspire with the unseen forces of the universe (only accessed by going all-in), to save the day.

I’m all-in!

Each week I’ll share some of the content from the book in a blog post to whet your appetite.

I will also be offering a special launch discount to people on my mailing list, so fill in your name and email below (if you haven’t already), to get the updates and a discount.

If you’re feeling brave, share your own project or goal that you’re committing to going all-in on, in the comments below.
